Lazy Steamed Chocolate Cake
i realised my hershey chocolate powder is gonna expire in 2 months. so i thot of making my favourite lazy steamed chocolate cake. for the life of me i cannot remember where i got this recipe from but i know i found it when i just started to learn how to surf the net 11/2 year ago. i remembered the recipe so well coz everything is measured by cup. & why i called it lazy. it doesnt really need much effort to prepare. you’ll see what i mean.
LAZY STEAMED CHOCOLATE CAKE
- 1 cup hershey chocolate powder
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil (actually, i mixed 1/2 cup melted butter and 1/2 cup oil)
- 1/2 cup condensed milk
- 1 teaspn chocolate emulco
- 3 eggs (beaten lightly)
- 1&1/4 cup of self raising flour
- 1 teaspn bicarbonate soda
- prepare the steamer.
- combine items 1-6 in a pan & put under a slow fire while stirring. take it down once the sugar melted & everything are well mixed. leave to cool slightly.
- add in the beaten egg bit by bit, stirring well. make sure the mixture is not hot otherwise it’ll will cook the eggs!
- fold in the flour/ bicarbonate soda (sieved) into the mixture slowly
- pour into a greased baking tin
- seal it with aluminium foil. by now the water in the steamer is already boiling. steam the cake for an hour.
so now you know why i call it lazy chocolate cake? it’s so simple isnt it? i dont even need to use many baking utensils. just the pan, baking tin, steamer & 1 or 2 spoons! no cake mixer, no egg beater… nothing! it taste great and moist too! promise, this is not bownies. it is really soft especially if you continue to cover it with the foil and keep it overnite. you can always smother it with some frosted icing or chocolate fudge. eat it with vanilla ice-cream? why not?!
