Holy Obedience

September 25th, 2007

excerpt taken from today’s gospel , “my mothers and brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it”(Lk 8:21)

God loves order because where order is lacking there can only be confusion and destructions. if i want to please God i must put order into my life. not only am i to obey the direct commands of God, but also His indirect commands; that is the orders which come to me through those who have authority over me ie. the church, my husband, my parents and our leaders in our community and even to those who are working, their lawful superiors.

why must we obey. God created us for a purpose; His everlasting glory and our happiness. so all those who have authority over us will help us to reach that goal willed by God. how should we obey? with love, also with holy courage, well knowing that obedience is almost always difficult. it costs sacrifice, it demands committment & the most challenging one, humility.

so if we meditate upon the gospel & strive to see Him in those who command us, we will find it easier to hear and act upon the order that’s been given to us. this kind of obedience frees our mind from all sense of inferiority. it diminishes our human resentment. self deception and pride are best overcome in our life of holy obedience. no matter how much we claim that we love Him, it will be just empty words until we prove them by life unquestioning obedience to His Will….

Be His Light

September 24th, 2007

an excerpts from today’s gospel ,”no one after lighting a lamp covers it with a bowl or puts it  under the bed”(Lk 8:16)

each time when we hold a christian life program, we pray that we’ll be able to help and  bring some christian families back to renewal in their christian life formation. it is indeed a glorious & rejoicing moment. as we see people being brought from darkness into light, from the bondage of sin to freedom in the spirit, from ‘death’ to life, we could really experienced great joy beyond compare.

yes, Jesus exhorts us to be the light welcoming people into His Kingdom. to share the light with others & to be witnesses to them of God’s love. the secret, is no more a secret. it has been made clear and revealed thru His love and mercy. thru the word of Jesus, we are to be the ‘light of the world’ (Mt 5:14a) so therefore, we are not to lose the light that has been entrusted to us…

The Gifts God has entrusted to us

September 23rd, 2007

in line with the sunday’s gospel…

if i began to count the things which i owe to Him i could never finish counting because each added moment of my life is another gift. so the best gratitude which i can offer Him is to use His gifts properly. wherever i look, i see His gifts. whatever i do, i’m using His gift. the least i can do is  to make better use of the many gifts which He send me each day & i am expected in continually effort to share these gifts.

we are told by Jesus that“the gift you received, give as a gift.”(Mt 10:8). we need to realise what a tremendous gift we have received in Jesus and we should want to spread this gift around.  and furthermore, when we share our gift, we are further blessed. it is Jesus himself who has said,”it is more blessed to give than to receive,”(Acts 20:35). we give, and rather than having less, we have more….

we dont want to end up like the steward whom the master took everything that was entrusted to him coz he had misused them. if we do not exercise proper and prudent stewardship over what belongs to God, we may not receive what should have been rightfully been ours. “if you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you whats yours?”(Lk 16:12).

whatever God gave us, He can take that back away from us. you know, whenever i tend to stray away or slacken in appreciating what God has blessed me with, this verse never fails to put me back on track,”…if you do not listen to what i say, I will put a curse on things you’ve received…”.(Mal 2:2)
