Holy Obedience
September 25th, 2007excerpt taken from today’s gospel , “my mothers and brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it”(Lk 8:21)
God loves order because where order is lacking there can only be confusion and destructions. if i want to please God i must put order into my life. not only am i to obey the direct commands of God, but also His indirect commands; that is the orders which come to me through those who have authority over me ie. the church, my husband, my parents and our leaders in our community and even to those who are working, their lawful superiors.
why must we obey. God created us for a purpose; His everlasting glory and our happiness. so all those who have authority over us will help us to reach that goal willed by God. how should we obey? with love, also with holy courage, well knowing that obedience is almost always difficult. it costs sacrifice, it demands committment & the most challenging one, humility.
so if we meditate upon the gospel & strive to see Him in those who command us, we will find it easier to hear and act upon the order that’s been given to us. this kind of obedience frees our mind from all sense of inferiority. it diminishes our human resentment. self deception and pride are best overcome in our life of holy obedience. no matter how much we claim that we love Him, it will be just empty words until we prove them by life unquestioning obedience to His Will….
